Iain Banks is a phenomenally successful novelist, both for his mainstream novels and his science fiction (published as Iain M Banks). Since he burst on the scene with The Wasp Factory in 1984, he has published more than 20 novels and been named by The Times as one of ‘The 50 Greatest British Writers since 1945.’ His latest book is Surface Detail.
