Common Problems
1. Connected to wireless but can’t access any web pages except for the University of Aberdeen site?
- Make sure you have set your web browser proxy settings correctly. See our Configure your device page for guidance.
2. Can't remember your user ID and password? User ID and password not working?
- First, please ensure that you are entering your user id as userid@abdn.ac.uk - for example, u99abc@abdn.ac.uk.
- If your user id and password are still not working, contact the Service Desk for assistance.
3. Able to detect a strong wireless signal, but experiencing frequent disconnections?
This could be caused by a number of issues. However, in most cases, one of the following two solutions usually help.
- If you are running Windows Vista, or Windows 7, please ensure that you have disabled IPv6 as instructed on page 1 of the appropriate user guide:
- Configuring a wireless connection: Windows Vista - eduroam & ResNet
- Configuring a wireless connection: Windows Vista - uoa-corporate
- Configuring a wireless connection: Windows 7 - eduroam & ResNet
- If you have already done this, or are running Windows XP, then please ensure that the drivers for your wireless network card are up-to-date. Manufacturers frequently release updated drivers for their wireless cards in order to fix various problems, so it is always worthwhile checking their web site and downloading and installing any new drivers for your card.
