If you love the outdoors then you'll love Aberdeen. To the east of the city lie the North Sea and a coastline of sandy beaches, while to the west stretches Royal Deeside, the beautiful valley of the River Dee. It's just half-an-hour from the buzz of Union Street to the tranquillity of the nearby hills and countryside in one of the most beautiful parts of Scotland.
The beaches are fantastic in the summer and provide watersport fans with the opportunity to test their mettle in the North Sea, or, for those that prefer dry land, you can simply walk, cycle, run or rollerskate along the promenade.
The Cairngorms are close by as are impressive skiing opportunities. In fact, just outside the city centre there lies one of the most advance dry-ski-slope facilities in the UK to practice on.
Where else can you have lectures in the morning and ski in the afternoon, or sail, or wind surf, or hill climb, or canoe or...? From seaside to mountainside - it is all on your doorstep at Aberdeen!
The city of Aberdeen itself boasts green parks and open spaces and is famed for winning many prestigious awards for horticultural excellence, which makes for a very picturesque setting for your studies.
The University also works in partnership with various service units whereby students who are interested in training with the Royal Navy Unit, Officer Training Corps or University Air Squadron can do so throughout their studies, providing the opportunity to take part in expeditions and outdoor activities.
