Finances

  • No tuition fees paid to host institutions.
  • You are typically eligible for the all the loans, bursaries and scholarships that you would have received if you had stayed at Aberdeen to study (paid by SAAS, Student Finance Direct, etc..).
  • Accommodation and meals will cost between £3000 and £5000 per year. There is a lot of variation - single or double rooms, up to 21 meals a week included, on-campus etc.
  • You will typically be asked for an accommodation deposit.
  • Admissions, administration or deposit monies (sometimes asked for).

You will also need to allow for the following:

  • Airfare
  • Insurance
  • Books could cost up to £400 for the year
  • Technology fees (University of Washington)
  • Extra money for emergencies and sightseeing

You will need about £2000 extra on top of what you normally spend in Aberdeen. You will also need to show proof of funds as specified by your Exchange Site before you are accepted and for obtaining a visa.

In order to be admitted at an Exchange Site students need to prove financial resources of between $6000 - $12000.
