New figures reveal universities are spending less on staff
New figures released last week reveal that, as student fees are set to rise to as much as £9,000 a year, the proportion of universities' expenditure spent on staff has fallen again. UCU said that universities need to invest in staff at a time when extraordinary changes to the university funding system mean students will be demanding more bang for their buck.

Sally Hunt is returned at UCU General Secretary
Sally Hunt has been re-elected as general secretary of the University and College Union (UCU), defeating her only opponent Mark Campbell by a margin of 6,835 votes. She won 73 per cent of the votes cast.
