The
Spyglass HTML Validator. This is a free program for Windows
95, which detects errors in the HTML syntax of your Web pages. You can
validate a large number of files at one time, view the locations of any
errors in your document, and edit corrections into the raw HTML. The program

HTML 2.0 and 3.2. See a picture of
the program in use (22Kb).
AOLpress

AOLpress "combines a Web browser with a fully-featured Web authoring
tool -- browse and edit in the same window". This freeware program
also includes a "Mini-Web" facility for generating a graphical
display of your Web structure, and a link-checking feature.
Web2Text for Windows
3.1 and Win95, is a freeware program which
converts HTML files into ASCII (plain text) files. Unlike most other such
programs, Web2Text attempts to create a text
file that retains some of the layout of the web page being converted. It also
leaves URLs intact in the document, and is capable
of batch conversion (processing a large number of files at once).
GIF

which allows you to create transparent, interlaced and animated GIF files
for your Web pages.

colors, pixels, and other non-essential elements. It can be set to find,
process and replace automatically all GIF files in an entire directory. Only the
registered version (US$30) will allow you to save the processed files.
Paint Shop Pro for Windows 3.1, Win95 and NT.
Another shareware program, Paint Shop Pro
allows you to convert between approximately 30 different image file formats,
and provides a wide range of image editing tools.
WebPen
Webset Utility Collection A set of three shareware utilities
for Windows 95: a transparent GIF maker, an active map maker, and a "WYSIWYG"
frame editor. Windows 3.1 and NT versions, together with other Web
tools, are available from the Informatik
home page.
InfoCourier
HTML Compiler allows you to compile a set of HTML documents,
together with an off-line viewer (browser), into a single executable file
which can fit onto a floppy disk. Running the executable file (in Windows
3.1, Win95 or NT) launches the browser, with your HTML pages automatically
displayed. This is useful for the distribution of course materials in HTML
format, for use at home by students without access to the WWW. InfoCourier
is a commercial program, although you may download a demonstration copy.
Xara Webster is a
Windows 95 program aimed at the production of Web graphics. XaraWebster
can combine images, add anti-aliased text, dither images, perform colour
reduction and add graduated transparency effects. It is a shareware program,
costing approximately £18.
Cache Explorer
for Windows 95 only, catalogues the contents of a WWW browser's
cache directory, giving easy off-line access to recently-visited Web pages. The
cache contents are displayed in clear "Windows Explorer-like" format.
Two versions of the program exist, one for Netscape v.2.0 or later, the other
for Microsoft Internet Explorer v.2 or later. Both cost US$20. If the above link is
slow, try an alternative download site.
Unmozify
allows you to retrieve the contents of Netscape's cache directory for
off-line viewing. It is less easy to use than Cache Explorer (above), but it is
available for Windows 3.1. It costs £15.
