Tools for creating Active Maps

These programs help you to create Active Maps (also called Imagemaps or "clickable images"). You simply load the image file (in .GIF or .JPG format) into the program, and then draw shapes onto the image to correspond to the desired active areas. Note that there are two types of Active Map : Client-side and Server-side. For an explanation of the difference, see the DISS/Computing Centre publication HTML7: Creating Active Maps.

Mapedit is an imagemap creation program for Windows 3.1. It can create both client-side and server-side maps, and can handle both .GIF and .JPG image formats.
Map This! is a more advanced imagemap creation program for Windows 95. You can have several files open at once, zoom in on the image for detailed editing of active areas, and automatically overlay regular arrays of active areas onto your image.
