WebTable

About WebTable:
WebTable is a small freeware utility that enables you to copy data from an on-line WWW table viewed in Netscape, and convert it into a suitable format for pasting directly into a Windows spreadsheet (such as Microsoft Excel). Note that the original WWW table data must be copied from Netscape. The program does not work with other WWW browsers, such as Internet Explorer. WebTable works in both Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.

WebTable is supplied by Informatik Inc., who also provide a range of other shareware tools for WWW authoring and graphics (see http://www.informatik.com for details).

Installing WebTable in Windows 3.1:

  1. Download and save the executable program webtable.exe (8Kb) to a suitable directory on your PC.
  2. Check whether you already have a file called vbrun300.dll in your C:\windows\system directory (for a Windows 95 user, this directory may possibly be called C:\win95\system or C:\windows95\system ). If not, download a copy and save it in that directory now:
Note: If Netscape attempts to "view" this .dll file, then hold down the Shift key whilst clicking on the link, so that you can save it to your hard disk instead.   vbrun300.dll (398Kb)
  3. You can now launch the webtable.exe program from the Windows File Manager (or Explorer, in Windows 95). A small window should appear on the screen.

Using WebTable:

  1. Start Netscape 3 and view the WWW page that contains the table data.
  2. Select the data that you wish to copy, using the mouse. Make sure that you copy the data from the WWW page itself, not from the HTML source code. Press Control+C (or select the menu commands "Edit-Copy") to copy this data to the Windows clipboard.
  3. Press the "Go" button on the WebTable menu box. This converts the data in the Windows clipboard to the desired format.
  4. You can then switch to your spreadsheet application (e.g. Microsoft Excel) and use the menu command "Edit-Paste" to paste in the data.
