HoTMetaL
HoTMetaL is probably the strictest HTML editor available.
It insists on syntactically correct HTML being used. You may find it hard
to load Web pages created by other editors into it as a consequence
(although version 1.0+ does offer to convert as best it can).
The program is available for
- Microsoft Windows, as
version 1.0+
(please read the
copyright notice).
- UNIX SunOS (at this site just issue the command hotmetal
at the UNIX prompt (requires X Windows)). There is
documentation
in PostScript format (536Kb).
To install HoTMetaL in Windows 3.1:
- Create a temporary directory on your hard disk, and download and save the file
hotmetal.zip (2.3 Mb) into this
directory.
- Use PKUNZIP or WinZip to unpack the program files from hotmetal.zip.
- Read the file install.txt, which is amongst the files unpacked.
- From the Windows Program Manager, run the file hminst.exe
to launch the setup program.
- Once HoTMetaL is successfully installed in a suitable directory, you can
delete the program setup files and the temporary directory.
You may wish to read a tutorial on creating documents
with HoTMetaL.
