Unsteady Friction

Thermofluids Research Group

We are a subgroup of the Environmental Hydraulics Research Group. Our research also ties in with the remit of The Institute of Energy Technologies and that of JRI for Energy & Clean Technologies of Northern Research Partnership.

Our research interests are focused on internal flows with/without heat transfer and we use computational fluid dynamcis (CFD) extensively in all areas of our research. Research activities often fall in one of the following areas:

  • Unsteady turbulent flow
  • Buoyancy-influenced flow
  • Convective heat transfer
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics
  • Turbulence modelling
  • Nuclear thermal hydraulics
  • Oil and gas production
  • Biofluids

Our research of fundamental nature has largely been sponsored by the UK research councils, whereas our applied research has often originated from and/or has been sponsored by industrial sectors such as energy and power generation, oil and gas production, offshore engineering and more recently biomedical engineering.
