Physician Assistant Training

The University of Aberdeen in conjunction with NHS Grampian, has launched the first Physician Assistant training course in Scotland. The Physician Assistant Postgraduate Diploma is a two year programme to deliver graduates who will work within a healthcare team.

Already holding a science or healthcare degree, applicants must pass an intensive examination and selection process to assess a variety of skills that will be required in subsequent clinical practice. After an intensive revision of basic sciences and learning how to examine patients in the Suttie Centre, students then undergo a series of clinical rotations in both the NHS Grampian and NHS Highland areas, with possible electives at centres in North America.

The Aberdeen course will deliver up to 15 Physicians Assistants each year who will be important in helping to tackle the changing needs of healthcare provision. This is an exciting opportunity for people who are highly motivated and want to work in a team playing a key role in the provision of healthcare throughout the UK.

Thanks to a very generous bequest in memory of James Bryce Clarke we have been able to offer a number of bursaries for students undertaking this new course.
