AfDB second call for Migration and Development Fund proposals
The African Development Bank (AfDB) has launched the second call for proposals under the Migration and Development Fund (MDF). This second call for proposals, open from 15 April to 31 May 2012, is targeting project sponsors in Central Africa and the Indian Ocean. MDF grants support projects that boost local development and aim to increase investment in migrant home countries in Africa in collaboration with African diasporas. The two sectors covered by the call for proposals are local development and investments in migrant home countries in Africa. Successful candidates will receive grants of up to €360,000.

Developing Innovative Green Energy Systems to Enhance Rural Sustainability (DIGESTERS) The DIGESTERS network are currently working on a 1-year project "The potential of small-scale biogas digesters to improve livelihoods and long term sustainability of ecosystem services in sub-Saharan Africa". The project, funded by the UK Department for International Development aims to examine the health, social and economic impacts of encouraging households in Uganda to move from using solid fuels such as wood and charcoal to biogas. Led by Dr. Jo Smith of the Plant and Soil Science group, the project is an inter-disciplinary collaboration involving Makerere University in Kampala, Green Heat Uganda, the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen and the Scottish Agricultural College in Edinburgh. Over the next five years, Private Enterprise Development in Low-Income Countries (PEDL) will pursue a research agenda that aims to better understand what determines the strength of market forces driving efficiency in Low-Income Countries (LICs). Existing research suggests that the private sector in LICs faces a multitude of constraints that act upon each other. Closing date 16th April 2012
