Developing Innovative Green Energy Systems to Enhance Rural Sustainability (DIGESTERS)
The DIGESTERS network are currently working on a 1-year project "The potential of small-scale biogas digesters to improve livelihoods and long term sustainability of ecosystem services in sub-Saharan Africa". The project, funded by the UK Department for International Development aims to examine the health, social and economic impacts of encouraging households in Uganda to move from using solid fuels such as wood and charcoal to biogas.
Led by Dr. Jo Smith of the Plant and Soil Science group, the project is an inter-disciplinary collaboration involving Makerere University in Kampala, Green Heat Uganda, the James Hutton Institute in Aberdeen and the Scottish Agricultural College in Edinburgh.
