The graduate students in sustainable development at Columbia University are convening the first Interdisciplinary Ph.D. Workshop in Sustainable Development (IPWSD); scheduled for May 6th-7th, 2011, at Columbia University in New York City.

GCID/Glasgow Human Rights Network Lecture - "South Sudan: Creating a New Country Out of Conflict"
In January, residents of southern Sudan went to the polls to decide whether or not to secede from Sudan. This was the culmination of decades of violence and a few years of relative peace. The vote was overwhelmingly in favour of secession, and South Sudan will become the newest country in the world in July. This discussion will look at the prospects for the new state from regional and geopolitical perspectives as well as the perspectives of people on the ground.

Over the coming weeks CSID will be showing a series of films from Sub Saharan Africa. This is in preparation for the 6th Century Course on Sustainable International Development which will commence on 28th September 2011. The showings will take place at 1900 each Wednesday. These events are open to all including members of the general public.
