Welcome to the University of Aberdeen. Founded in 1495, Aberdeen in one of the Ancient Universities of Great Britain and has a proud history of scholarship dating back over 500 years.

We have a long history of close educational links with North America, and welcome a growing number of US students to our beautiful campus each year. Some of our most famous graduates who have made a significant impact in North America include:

  • James Blair (1656-1743), founder and first President of the College of William and Mary in the USA
  • The Hon A Gail Prudenti, Chief Administrative Judge of the Courts of New York State
  • William Smith (1727-1803), the first Provost of the University of Pennsylvania
  • Dr William Thornton (1759 – 1828) the architect who designed the United States Capitol in Washington DC
  • Bertha Wrenham Wilson, Canadian jurist and the first female Puisne Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada
