The Rowett Institute at the University of Aberdeen conducts world class research on the relationship between diet & health, playing a major role in the UK research capability in nutrition and human health and through the years has also made a significant impact on animal health and nutrition.

Among the many strengths of the Rowett Institute are its state of the art facilities including a human nutrition unit, core facilities for metabolite, DNA and protein analysis and suites of modern purpose designed research laboratories.

Genuine interdisciplinarity is at the heart of Rowett Institute ethos.

The four primary research areas respond to, and engage in, research to develop environmentally and economically sustainable approaches to food production, dietary design and formulation.

Gut Health

Defining the role of the gut to help improve understanding of the link between diet and health.

Investigation how diet influences health and the ageing process.

Life-course and Population Health

Exploring the links between diet and physiology which drive dietary behaviours.

Entry Requirements

Typically but not always depending on other experience, CHERI PhD candidates would have an Honours degree in medicine, psychology, sociology, health services research, education or similar, and a taught Masters in a topic such as research methods. However, if your background is different to this, please contact us to discuss your ideas and what you can contribute to CHERI.
