E-Mail Features

Studentmail features 10GB of e-mail storage to cope with the demands of modern communication. The storage space allocation includes all calendar appointments, sent items, deleted items and other e-mail folders. Reminders are sent when you get close to reaching your quota.

1. View mailbox size instantly

Hover mouse over your mailbox name to display the maximum allowed mailbox size and current usage. Mailbox size

2. Composing mail

Note: These features are also available to you when scheduling a meeting invitation in Calendar mode.

Create a New message
In Mail view, click on New.

A new Untitled Message window opens.

HTML or Plain Text – choose to format your message in HTML (allowing full Messaging Formatting, e.g. bold, italic, bullets, font colour, etc.) or Plain Text. Choose to formulate your message in HTML or Plain Text

Message formatting options – Click on the drop down arrow on the font toolbar to view more formatting options.

Tick the checkbox next to an option to display it on the message window toolbar for future ease of use.

Spell check – Click on spell check after composing your mail to highlight misspelled words – simply right-click on a highlighted word to view alternative options.

Personal Properties – Right-click on a recipient’s name to view their properties, e.g. office location and phone number, where available. Personal properties

3. Auto-complete mail names

When composing mail, when you type the first letter of a mail name in the To, CC or Bcc boxes, Auto-complete suggests possible matches based on names you have typed previously. Auto-complete mail names

4. Full featured Address Book

This displays the Global Address List and Contacts. It is browseable and fully searchable.

Access or search the Address Book – at any time from the main toolbar (click on Book icon, as illustrated opposite); when composing mail, from the message window toolbar, or by clicking on the To or Cc buttons.

Display details – Click on an entry in the address book to display details for that person in the Reading Pane opposite. Details displayed include Calendar availability.

Note: Can't see the Reading Pane?
Click on the  Show/Hide Reading Pane icon at the top of the Address Book window.

5. Attachments - Web Ready Document Viewing

Read Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or Acrobat attachments as web pages (HTML) – no need to have MS Office or Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Click on the [Open as Web Page] link to quickly view the document in a web viewer. It is, of course still possible to Open or View an attachment in the usual way. Open as Web page

6. Check for messages

You can force Studentmail to search for any new messages that have arrived in your Inbox. Click on the Check Messages icon on the far right of the Mail toolbar.

7. Arrange messages

Expand the menu next to Arrange by by clicking on the arrow next to Date. You can choose to arrange your messages from options including Conversation (shows threads of specific message topics), Type, Attachments, Importance, Flag Due Date, and Flag Start Date. Arrange messages

8. Reading Pane

Buttons for Reply, Reply all and Forward are integrated into the Reading Pane of E-mail messages, so you can quickly respond.
Buttons for responding to Calendar items (i.e. Accept, Tentative, and Decline) are integrated into the Reading Pane of Calendar invites, so you don’t need to double-click on an invite in order to respond.

9. Labelling (Categories)

Click on the Categories icon (next to the flag) to colour code messages, in addition to or instead of flagging.

Note: You can also categorise Calendar items, Contacts and Tasks.

10. Search

Find items in your mailbox quickly and simply via the integrated search bar. Click on the double-headed arrow to perform an advanced search.

Note: The integrated search is also available in Contacts and Tasks views.

11. Right-click options

No need to open additional dialog boxes!

Right-click on a mail folder to view quick options, e.g. Mark All as Read, Create New Folder, Copy Folder, etc.

12. Message Flagging

Flags can now be associated with start dates for Tasks.
