Studentmail IM | Windows Live Messenger
The Studentmail service is not just about e-mail and calendaring. Using your Studentmail e-mail address, you can now access a range of Windows Live services including Instant Messaging using both Windows Live Messenger and the inbuilt messaging features of Studentmail.
Studentmail IM
- Contacts you have invited to use instant messaging appear in your Contact List, situated underneath your e-mail folders in the Mail tab.
Windows Live Messenger
- Double-click the icon on the classroom desktop or install from Windows Live onto your own computer, then sign in using your studentmail e-mail address and password.
- To download Windows Live Messenger for your own computer, go to http://get.live.com/messenger/overview
- Sign in to Windows Live Messenger using your Studentmail e-mail address and password
- Change your status to let your contacts know if you are available or not. Choose from: Online, Busy, Be right back, Away, In a call, Out to lunch or Appear offline.
- You can change the colour scheme of your Messenger window and change your display picture by selecting Open Menu > Tools > Options
- Your contacts list includes any contacts you have stored in your Studentmail contacts.
- To add a new contact, click Add a contact. Fill in the instant messaging address for the person you wish to add. You can also add details such as phone numbers and addresses.
- Double-click an online contact to send an instant message.
- Right-click an online contact to view other contact options, such as video sharing if you have a web-cam.
- Double-click an offline contact to send an e-mail message.
