Note: Get additional help at any time from within Studentmail, by clicking on the Help icon to access Outlook Live's online help.
It is useful to store the details of people you communicate with regularly in your Contacts. Studentmail includes an online Global Address List (GAL) of all students at the University of Aberdeen. Once you log in, you can retrieve the e-mail address of any student regardless of your location.
To access your Contacts, click on the Contacts button on the bottom left of the Studentmail screen.

1. Create a Contact from an existing sender's message
The simplest way to add a Sender's details to your Contacts is via Mail view.
Locate a message from a sender you would like to add to your Contacts, and double-click on it to open in a new window. Right-click on the sender's e-mail address and select Add to Contacts from the pop-up menu. A new Untitled Contact form window opens. Note that the sender's e-mail address and name are already included. Add other details if you wish.
Click on Save and Close. |

| Note: It may take a while for your new Contact to appear listed under Contacts. If it doesn't appear immediately, try logging out of Studentmail and logging in again. | |
2. Add a Contact from the Address Book
| Click on the Address Book icon on the main Studentmail toolbar to open the Global Address List. | |
| In the Search Field, type in the last name of the person you wish to add to your Contacts, then press the Enter key. | ![]() |
From the search results, right-click on the name of the person you wish to add to your Contacts and select Add to Contacts from the pop-up menu. Note: There may be more than one instance of the last name you searched for listed in your search results - make sure you select the correct one before adding to your Contacts! |

3. Create additional Contacts folders
If you wish, you can create additional Contacts folders; for example, you may want to create a folder for your non-university contacts.
Make sure you are in Contacts view. Simply right-click on My Contacts on the left side of the Contacts window and select Create New Contacts Folder. Specify a name for your new folder, then press the Enter key to save.

4. Integrated Search field
Your Contacts has its own integrated Search field to help you find contacts quickly and simply.
Click on the double-headed arrow to perform an advanced search. Note: The integrated search is also available in Mail view. |

6. Groups
If there is a group of people you regularly e-mail all at once, you can create a group within your Contacts to ensure that they are all e-mailed simultaneously.
Make sure you are in Conctacts view before you start.
Create a Group
Click the arrow next to New and choose Group. Type in a memorable nickname for the group in the Group Name text box. The Untitled Group form window opens. |

In the Untitled Group window, type in the e-mail addresses of the group members into the Members text box, separating them with semi-colons e.g. h.samuel@another.com; rombus@chromium.net; Click Add to Group. When finished, click Save and Close. |

| Adding members from existing Contacts or GAL: | |
Click the Members button Select members from either the Default Global Address List or My Contacts. Click Members -> at the bottom of the window to add selected contacts to the Group. Click OK. When finished adding members, click Save and Close |

Any Groups you create will appear listed with your Contacts. They can be easily identified by a small human face icon, and the title 'Group'. |

Send a message to a Group/Invite Group members to a meeting
| To send a message to a Group, or to schedule a meeting with Group members, simply right-click on the Group name and select the appropriate option from the pop-up menu. | ![]() |
Share a Group
Sharing a Group amongst other group members avoids each member having to create the Group list from scratch.
In your Contacts page, right-click on a Group Select Forward as Attachment Send the group in an e-mail as an attachment Recipients receive the group in an e-mail as an attachment, which they can save to their own Contacts. |
