YAAARR!!
a few of us keen WINTAAARRR beasts headed into several areas of the cairngorms this weekend just past, and had a truly amazing time. I cannot speak for any other of the teams climbing, but I do know that Cpt. Steve took a wee tumble! I'll leave him to explain!
Myself and The Mighty Munro travelled into Coire an t'sneachta on Sunday, and did a route by the name of "hidden chimney" on the mess of pottage. it goes at grade II/III, and was a fine start to the WINTAARRR season. we attempted a direct start to this, graded at III/IV, but were possibly not on the right route, or otherwise, either way I got my ass kicked on it and had to downclimb. once on the route we had to get in line with the other three or four climbing groups (a popular day for hidden chimney it seemed!), making for some "cosy" belays! the route was completed quite well until the final pitch, when on second, i managed to chuck an axe through my rope, and into my face, and not see a thing for my glasses freezing up, all within 3 minutes! got to the top ready to kill someone, but then saw the lovely Iain, and my rage (and frozen cheekbones) melted. the walk back was a bit windy and had rather poor visibility, but we got back in high spirits, eager for a pint and bed!
