Research Model

Phase 1 (2005-2007)

The first phase of research was to conduct longitudinal case studies, following the first cohort of STNE B.Ed students through their six years of initial teacher education.

Summaries of the evidence for the first two years of case studies can be found in the Resources section.

Phase 2 (2007-2009)

While there is a continuation from phase 1 with the longitudinal case studies, phase two of the STNE research is deepening and broadening through comparison of data across all the ITE programmes in the School of Education, involvement and engagement with teachers in practice and supporting and taking forward projects with specific focuses involving staff within the School of Education in collaboration with staff in other Colleges and Departments.  This model is represented in diagram one which shows the three main components of phase 2.

The three main components of the phase two research model are:

  1. Programme/Course based evaluations and student data.
  2. School-based Teacher Action Research
  3. University Staff Learning Projects.
