Biography

I am a part-time Lecturer at Aberdeen University and this is my second fantastic year here.

In terms of education: I studied Classics at King's College (University London) where I read for my MA. In 2006, I graduated from Durham University with a PhD, although my journey in Classics started at St Mary's - and I am truly grateful for that initial inspiration.

Outside of Classics my other passions include sport. I am a keen runner and a member of the Carnegie Harriers, Dunfermline. I also have my eyes set on Blenheim Palace Triathlon for 2013 - here's hoping!!

Research Interests

Although my teaching centres on Greek and Roman culture / history, my research area includes Near Eastern Studies. I am currently researching cross-cultural influences between the Near East and Greece pre 8th century BCE.

I am happy to supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students looking to research within the following areas:

  • Greek literature (in particular epic and lyric)
  • Greek theatre and performance
  • Ancient Greek religion
  • Near Eastern creation myths

Research Grants

Most recently, in 2011, I secured a grant from the Carnegie Trust which facilitated a journal publication.
