Biography

I joined the Department of French at the University of Aberdeen in 2011, having previously taught in Canada and Ireland.

Research Interests

Seventeenth-century French literature and culture, with a particular focus on:

  • History of historiography
  • Memoirs and life-writing
  • Moral and political thought

Research Grants

I have received research funding from: the Chancellerie des Universités de Paris/ Ministère de l’Éducation Nationale, France (2001; 2004); the Fonds Québécois de la Recherche sur la Société et la Culture (2005); the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (2006); the British Academy (2010) and the Carnegie Trust for the Universities of Scotland (2011). I received a junior research fellowship from the Marsh’s Library, Dublin (declined as non-cumulative with permanent post - 2008). I was awarded the annual prize of the SATOR (2004) and the annual prize of the Association Internationale des Études françaises (2007).

Teaching Responsibilities

I currently teach an Honours option course on early-modern French literature (‘Thought and Laughter’: Cyrano, Molière, La Fontaine, Voltaire, Diderot) and contribute to second year literature and culture courses as well as to the postgraduate MLitt in Renaissance and Early Modern Studies.
