Points Based System

In April 2008 the UK Border Agency introduced a new Points Based System as part of a major revision of immigration processes in the UK. The Points Based System has replaced over 80 existing routes to work and study in the UK with 5 separate tiers categorising the various ways of entering the UK:

• Tier 1 – High value migrants
• Tier 2 – Skilled Workers
• Tier 3 – Low Skilled Workers
• Tier 4 – Students
• Tier 5 – Temporary Workers
