Filming and Photography

Filming and PhotographyThe University has a beautiful campus with outstanding buildings, heritage and people, and we welcome opportunities to capture this for a wider audience.

However, it is also is a busy working environment, and home for thousands of students.

The following guidelines are designed to facilitate filming and photography on campus, while avoiding disruption of the core business or any invasion of privacy of students and staff.

For research and other projects the University provides a professional video filming, production and photography service through the Media Services team.

For all internal filming and photography, subjects must complete the above consent form agreeing to the use of the photos or video footage on the University website and sometimes elsewhere.

For requests for photography or filming coming from outwith the University, the first point of contact should be the Communications team.

Communications will want to know the production company, who they are working for, and the purpose and location of the filming. They will liaise with the company on public liability insurance and risk assessment documentation, and on logistics including parking and access.

Any fees are at the discretion of the University and will be agreed at the outset.

Film crews and photographers must be sensitive to the multicultural nature of the University community. Students, staff and members of the public should be treated with courtesy and respect at all times, and noise must be kept to a minimum, especially between 10pm and 8am, and access routes preserved.
