The Centre for Academic Development offers a dedicated Teaching Programme for Postgraduate Research Students and Early Career Researchers, which runs in both the first and second half sessions of the current academic year. The Programme is designed specifically for those who are new to teaching, and who may have little or no previous experience. The Programme is externally accredited by the Higher Education Academy.
The Teaching Programme for Postgraduates and ECRs runs over four half days (blocks), spread over six weeks to allow participants to complete two formative assessments, peer observations and readings. There is also a single summative assessment which is tied to the programme's accreditation. Successful participants will also receive an exemption from one of the pieces of assessment on the University's Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Learning and Teaching programme, along with Associate Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.
Please note: to complete the course successfully you need to attend all sessions - this is a requisite element of the course.
Topics covered on the programme include:
Post-session activity 1: Developing a rationale for your teaching
Post-session activity 2: Prepare a 5 min presentation to deliver at the next workshop
Post-session activity 3: Look at UKPSF SD1 and decide whether you want to be assessed orally or by writing
Post-session activity: complete the summative assessment in order to meet UKPSF SD1
