Dr Barbara Gorgoni

Biography

My main role as Technology Transfer Executive is to support the commercialisation of research across a wide range of activities, including IP protection, licensing, spinout formation, market exploration and industry collaboration. I help researchers progress innovative ideas from concept to application, facilitating access to development programmes, relevant funding and other support. I am responsible for managing projects within the University’s spinout pipeline primarily in the engineering and physical sciences sectors, guiding ventures through to company creation. More recently I have taken an interest in the development of social enterprises in more diverse disciplines.

Prior to my current role, I spent more than ten years supporting engagement with industry, public- and third-sector organisations and the general public. My background is in biomedical research, with a PhD from the University of Dundee and over 10 years of postdoctoral research at the Universities of Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Throughout my career my guiding passion and motivation have been to enable translation of research into societal and economic impact.
