When I first heard that we were considering a major review of our business processes, backed by new software systems, it seemed to me like another example of Aberdeen being forward-looking and seeking to keep ahead of its competitors by innovating. It fitted with other major projects, such as our early move into fund-raising, re-organisation into Colleges and Schools, the recruitment drive of the early and mid-2000's, and curriculum reform - all innovations that others have followed. So, when I was approached about taking a lead role, it was a challenge I could not resist.
It will be a major undertaking, which will take between three and five years to implement fully, and it will require us all to work together to deliver it. We should expect to make major changes to the way we do things, to align our processes to best practice internationally and to support these with high quality software systems.
While the task is immense and its implementation will require hard work and determination, I am confident that we can deliver it as we have the abilities and the commitment across the University Community. And we have done major innovations before several times in other areas of our activities.
My interest in the project, and my sesne of scale of the potential benefits, were focused by demonstartions from a selection of suppliers of the available supporting software systems (dealing with the current student experience). I left these demonstrations wanting to start straight away - the opportunities really are enormous!
We are committed to keeping the University Community, staff and students fully informed, and to involving all those who wish to be involved. This website is only a number of ways we will keep you informed. I look forward to working with you to deliver another success for Aberdeen.
