The Fulbright Awards brochure is currently being prepared to promote awards tenable in academic year 2012/13. This will be distributed throughout the United States by cooperating agencies, the Institute of International Education (IIE) and the Council for the International Exchange of Scholars (CIES).

Fulbright Senior Specialists Programme (FSSP)

The University of Aberdeen is also invited to apply for the Fulbright Senior Specialist Programme (FSSP). The FSSP brings US academic faculty and professionals to the UK to collaborate with British counterparts on curriculum, faculty development and institutional planning, conduct team research, lecture and/or engage in a variety of other activities. Eligible disciplines include (but are not limited to) Business Administration, Law, American Studies, Music, Journalism, Social Work, Economics, Public Administration and Communications.

Fulbright Award in Theology and Religious Studies or Health Services

One award is offered to pursue a Master’s degree in either Theology and Religious Studies or Health Servicesat the University of Aberdeen. In addition to a full tuition fee waiver from the University of Aberdeen the awardee will receive £10,000, which is intended as a contribution towards general maintenance costs (accommodation, travel, subsistence, etc) while in the UK. This will be paid in instalments directly to the grantee upon arrival in the UK.

Additional Qualifications

A PhD or equivalent professional or terminal degree (including a master's depending on the field). For professionals and artists outside academe, recognized professional standing and substantial professional accomplishments. The Fulbright-Scotland Visiting Professors Program is designed for eminent scholars with substantial experience and publications in their respective fields. Short-listed applicants will be invited to telephone interviews with Commission staff in February 2012.

Special Features

The award is for £26,000 plus accommodation (including for his/her spouse). Fulbright-Scotland Visiting Professors are invited to participate in a wide range of events, and benefit from a variety of additional opportunities provided by the Commission. Staff members guide scholars through the UK visa application process and assist them with opening UK bank accounts. An annual 3-day Orientation takes place in mid-September; a 5-day Fulbright Forum highlights a specific place or region of the UK each January (Cornwall in 2011); and a Farewell ‘End-cap’ weekend is planned around each 4th of July weekend (Scotland in 2011). Fulbright-Scotland Visiting Professors also receive free institutional memberships with: The Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures & Commerce (RSA), and The English-Speaking Union (ESU)and are invited to participate as a judge in the Institute of Ideas Debating Matterscompetition. Scholars are also encouraged to deliver a free public lecture at the prestigious Gresham College(est 1597) in London. The Commission arranges for a UK alumni mentor and seeks to introduce Fulbright-Scotland Visiting Professors to relevant senior/high-profile contacts.
