Update on Equality and Diversity e-training

The University launched a new Equality and Diversity e-training facility for all staff in December 2010. The training is available to access and complete throughout the rest of the academic year.

Over a hundred staff have already signed up.

Two courses are available.  ‘Diversity in the Workplace’ provides basic training on the legislative framework and its practical implications which affect us all.  It is concise and can be completed within 90 minutes. This course can be completed by all staff in the University.

The second course, ‘Diversity in Teaching and Learning’, focuses on the specific issues for teaching staff.  It allows colleagues to reflect on their teaching practice and provides good guidance regarding developing an inclusive learning environment.  It is also extremely accessible and can be completed within 90 minutes.

You can access the training through the following link:  https://abdn.marshallacmtraining.co.uk/courselist. Further information on how to register and use the training is available on the Equality and Diversity pages of the website. http://www.abdn.ac.uk/ppg/diversity.

How do I access the training?

You are already registered as a user on the system. You can access the training and save your progress in four quick steps.

Firstly, access the training through the following link:  https://abdn.marshallacmtraining.co.uk/courselist.

  1. Your username is your abdn.ac.uk email address. The password is: password. This will give you access to the site. You will automatically be asked to change your password. Please note that the system is secured by password and only staff named in this email have access to results.
  2. Click on the relevant course to begin the training.
  3. Finally, when you have completed sections and wish to save your work, click on the bookmark tab at the top of the screen. This ensures that your work is saved. Your work is only saved if you complete the quiz at the end of each section.

It is recommended that you firstly save the e-training to your Favourites or on to your Desktop for ease of access for future and ongoing use.

You can click on the Help page on the e-training site to familiarise yourself with the functions involved in the e-training process including checking progress, saving work and navigating courses.

Each course is made up of a number of sections. You can view your level of progress in each of these sections by clicking ‘Show all’ in the Sections bar on the right hand side of the screen. This will show each of the sections within the course and allow you to navigate them.

Why is equality and diversity training important?

I encourage you to access this important training.  The modules contain information which you may not be aware of and which may surprise you.  It is important, for a variety of reasons that all staff are provided with the opportunity to become more aware of the University’s legal obligations in this area and our commitment to equality.

If you require additional information or wish to provide feedback on the training, please contact Janine Chalmers, Equality and Diversity Adviser on telephone 01224 273883 or by e-mail or Kenny Stewart, Policy Officer on 01224 272077 or by email diversity@abdn.ac.uk.
