Our staff provide presentations, talks and deliver workshops on a range of topics, particularly for senior pupils. The Schools Liaison team make many visits per year to secondary schools and colleges to attend higher education evenings, speak to parents and support pupils in their preparation for university. The team provide quality, impartial information and guidance that will enable your students to make informed decisions about higher education in general.

Presentation topics include:

  • Thinking about Higher Education
  • Personal Statements
  • Student Life
  • University Study Skills
  • Summer School for Access
  • The University of Aberdeen
  • Accommodation and Finance

We are always willing to discuss what schools and colleges require and can adapt our presentations to suit your needs. We can also arrange to have specific members of staff provide talks or workshops across out academic areas of study.

We also visit schools and colleges further afield as part of an organised programme of visits or to coincide with attendance at higher education conventions.

Arranging a Visit

All prospective students, interested parents, teachers and careers staff are welcome to visit the University by making an appointment with the Student Recruitment and Admissions Service. We are happy to accommodate groups of school and college students.

A visit usually begins with a short presentation about the University, a tour of the campus led by one of our Student Ambassadors, followed by a visit to the student's department(s) of interest. The tour usually includes our halls of residence, sports facilities, library and many more of the resources the University has to offer.

We can usually arrange moderately priced accommodation and require two weeks notice to make the necessary arrangements.

Open Day

The University of Aberdeen will hold its University-wide Open Day at the end of August. This is one of the biggest events in the University calendar, which allows the University to showcase all it has to offer and gives prospective students a chance to get a taste of what studying in Aberdeen will really be like. Booking early is particularly important for students interested in Medicine. To find out more about the full programme of events and how to book a place, visit

Events for Guidance Staff

We regularly arrange visits to the University for teachers and careers staff as well as an annual conference. We are always happy to update you on new developments at the University and in Higher Education in general or give you guidance on reference writing and the personal statement.

Higher Education Induction Days

Higher Education Induction Days take place usually for a fortnight in June when schools can bring their new S6 pupils onto campus for a day. The day's activities are intended to inspire pupils to consider higher education as an option and to motivate them to work hard and get the most out of their S6.

Keeping in Touch

As well as an annual newsletter, we also send regular ezines to guidance staff and careers advisers with information about the University.
