Local High Performance Scheme
Who is it for?
There are many locally based athletes who are not students of the University of Aberdeen or part of any nationally based body, and wish to improve their performance. These individuals can apply to the University of Aberdeen, Sport and Exercise Team to become part of our 'Local High Performers' scheme. 'The Local High Performers' scheme is for athletes 18 years and under.
What is the aim?
The aim of the group is to provide guidance and supervision in all aspects of performance, and so help individuals realise their potential.
How do I gain membership?
Membership of the Local High Performers scheme is limited, therefore selection criteria are adopted. A strong weighting is given to the individual's level of sporting performance (usually at or close to National Standard), however physiological and psychological factors, commitment and long-term goals are also considered. Membership of the scheme is annual, and although athletes can be part of the scheme for several years, each individual has to apply, or re-apply, every year.
What are the benefits of membership?
- Free use of training facilities at the University of Aberdeen.
- Fitness testing and conditioning programming.
- Free seminars on various aspects of performance.
What is the application procedure?
- Complete an application form.
- Attend for interview if selected.
- Await notification of success.
