  What happens after the residence abroad?

The Honours programme offers intensive language study coupled with a range of content courses that are directly related to the current research activities of the staff within the Department. Students can choose to specialise in either Spanish or Latin American Studies and the emphasis at this level is on flexibility, whereby students can select from a variety of courses to suit their individual interests. Some of the courses currently available include:

• Questioning the Questioner: the Work of Miguel Unamuno
• Realism in Spanish Literature 1850-1950
• Narrating Collective Pasts in the Hispanic World
• Creativity in Hispanic Writing
• Representations of the Civil War
• Politics and Popular Culture in Modern Latin American Fiction
• Latin American Film
• 20th Century Mexico: Visual Perspectives

Courses are varied not only in terms of their content but also as far as assessment methods are concerned. Assessment is designed to test a variety of skills, from the more traditional extended essay, to oral presentation skills, and team project work.
