Department of Sociology

40th Anniversary Celebrations

While Robert Morrison MacIver first taught sociology in the University in 1911-15, the Department of Sociology was founded in the 1964-65 academic year, with Professor Raymond Illsley as its first head. To mark the 40th anniversary of its foundation, the Department organized a celebration in May 2005 that saw the return of every head of department since its inauguration, students from the first graduating cohort and several others associated with the Department over its first forty years.
