The objectives of the School of Medical Sciences relevant to the learning and teaching agenda reflect those of the College of Life Sciences and Medicine and indeed the University as a whole. They have at their heart, enhancing the student learning experience so that all students can reach their full potential. Our students will graduate with a solid background of discipline-specific knowledge as well as generic skills and life skills that will enable them to pursue a lifelong engagement with education. We are exploring innovative ways of delivering our teaching to increase flexibility and widen access to our courses. One particular area which is being vigorously pursued is the rationalisation of the timetable structure enabling students and staff to regularise their working time. Use of interactive teaching, for example by way of personal response systems is seen as an exciting way to increase student engagement in their learning. To increase the employment opportunities of our students we are examining potential new courses/degree programmes. We are dedicated to delivering high quality teaching and learning in an excellent research environment.
