The Harkany lab focuses on understanding the developmental organization and functions of the endocannabinoid system by using a combination of molecular genetics, neuroimaging, neuroanatomy and electrophysiology approaches. Besides focusing on physiological developmental programs controlled by endocannabinoid signaling during corticogenesis, substantial resources are dedicated to elucidating the neuronal basis of cannabis-induced developmental deficits in the central nervous system. Through our studies, we hope to identify organizing principles of endocannabinoid signaling in the developing brain with particular emphasis on the roles of endocannabinoids in establishing neuronal diversity and connectivity patterns.
