What happens in a Study Advice Session?
You will meet with an Academic Skills Adviser to discuss any concerns you may have about your studies and to develop a plan of action. Often only a one-hour session is sufficient but further appointments can be arranged.
To request a Study Advice Session appointment, please book online using the study advice session request form.
All Study Advice Sessions are confidential unless you, the student, elect otherwise. When working on academic writing with undergraduate and taught postgraduate students, we only look at marked work. We go through feedback carefully in order to devise strategies for future writing. In advance of submission of assignments we give general advice on research and structure but will not edit or proof-read text.
Individual Study Advice Sessions with PhD students are only undertaken with the agreement of a student's supervisor(s). The initial contact will normally come from a student's supervisor(s).
When you request a Study Advice Session, it is important to let us know times and days of the week that you would be able to come. We will then offer you the earliest appointment available with the appropriate Adviser. We will try to see you within two weeks but at busy times you may need to wait longer.
If you have dyslexia, and/or other specific learning differences:
If you would like specialist advice please send in an online request for an appointment specialist study advice session request form.
