Information for New Students - Postgraduate

View towards Elphinstone HallThe School of Language & Literature is one of six Schools in the College of Arts and Social Sciences and is the home to the following departments:

It has a thriving community of doctoral students and hosts Taught Master’s Programmes in Creative Writing, Comparative Literature, ELATE, English Literary Studies, Scottish Studies and Visual Culture.

 

Locations

The School is situated at the heart of the King's College campus, Old Aberdeen.

 

Advising Week and Registration

An Induction Meeting and Welcoming Party will take place on Wednesday 19th September in Room 028 and 029 MacRobert Building from 5 – 7pm and all new postgraduate students in the School are encouraged to attend. Advising appointments for Taught Master’s students will be arranged at this meeting and the School Postgraduate Officer (Research) will advise all new PhD students on what they should expect in their first few weeks. New PhD students should also meet with their supervisors in the first week.
Before arriving at the University you should follow the joining instructions to complete pre-registration. You will not be able to complete registration until after you have met with your Advisor of Studies in Advising Week.

Classes for Taught Programmes

Classes for all Taught Master’s  Programmes  (M.Litts) will begin on Monday 24 September. Timetabling information will be given at advising sessions but you should also check the M.Litt noticeboard in the A corridor near the School Office and the School of Language & Literature MyAberdeen M.Litt site, as well as the MyAberdeen sites for the courses for which you register.

Postgraduate Community

The School of Language & Literature has a thriving postgraduate community which is co-ordinated by the School of Language & Literature Postgraduate Forum. The postgraduate representative is currently Ms Leslie Drury and she will contact new postgraduate students within the first few weeks concerning welcoming events and activities.
