Language and linguistics at Aberdeen

StudentThe University of Aberdeen prides itself in being a centre of new and vibrant research into a wide range of subfields of linguistic study. Staff research interests drive the teaching programme: current research is focussed on topics including discourse analysis, language variation and change, language attitudes, language learning (both as a child and an adult), bilingualism, and the linguistic ecology of Scotland. In the last five two members of staff have received two major external research grants.

The discipline offers courses at all levels of the Undergraduate syllabus and Single and Joint Honours degrees. It is also home to the highly successful MLitt programme in English Linguistics for Advanced Teachers of English (ELATE) and a rich and varied postgraduate culture involving our many PhD students
