Objectives

The primary goal is to underpin the sustainability of the UK salmon farming industry by studying key metabolic processes that influence traits that are important in terms of:

  1. Efficiency and sustainability of farm production
  2. Welfare of farm stocks
  3. Quality and nutritional value of salmon products for the consumer

This will be pursued by identifying genes involved in:

  1. Polyunsaturated fatty acid metabolism (more)
  2. Protein metabolism (more)
  3. Responses to bacterial and viral challenge (more)
  4. Fresh water to sea water adaptation (parr-smolt transformation) (more)
