MacLeod Scholarship, College of Arts and Social Sciences, University of Aberdeen

Applications are invited for the MacLeod Scholarship.  To be eligible, candidates must be commencing postgraduate studies in October 2010 (the 2010/11 academic year).

 

The MacLeod Scholarship is available for a maximum of three years and will cover full-time UK/EU tuition fees. Depending on the nature of the degree, the scholarship may be awarded for a maximum of three years. The scholarship shall be awarded on the basis of academic merit, and in line with the following criteria:

Subject of study

The first preference shall be given to postgraduate candidates whose research field is Modern Gaelic and/or Ecclesiastical research, and the second preference for general Gaelic language or culture.  Scholars working in any field in the religious or cultural experience of the Highlands and Islands would also be eligible to apply. In the event that a candidate can not be identified in the above subject areas, scholars with research interests in the Humanities and Social Sciences will also be eligible for the scholarship, with a specific preference for those studying areas focussing on the rights and responsibilities of citizens relative to communities in the state. Scholars must be affiliated to the College of Arts and Social Sciences within the categories mentioned above.

 

Candidates

Candidates eligible for consideration for the scholarship shall be applicants who have been accepted by the University of Aberdeen to engage in a postgraduate course within the areas above. Preference will be given, in order of priority, to postgraduate candidates from the Isle of Berneray, from the Outer Hebrides or from the Highlands and Islands.  If no suitable candidates are identified from these regions, a candidate from elsewhere in Scotland will be selected.
