Overview

The British Science Festival (previously the Annual Festival of the British Association for the Advancement of Science) has an illustrious 178-year history and has evolved each year, the event last came to Aberdeen in 1963 and has not been to Scotland since 2001.


The Festival covers the complete breadth of natural and social sciences, from economics to engineering. It is unique is attracting an international media presence, with some 100+ journalists taking up residence at the Festival to report on topical research findings announced at Festival events. As well as the latest research and innovation, there is an extensive and accessible public, family and schools programme running throughout the Festival, and achieving some 80,000 visitor interactions.

The British Science Association also uses the Festival to host regional forums for its UK-wide branch network and a series of award lectures showcasing the best up and coming research and science communication talent, often featuring upcoming postgraduate and early stage career researchers.
