Research Supervision

Current Research Supervision under the RLRG 

The RLRG members are currently actively involved in the supervision of a number of students within the broad umbrella of ‘rural law research’. In particular, Anne-Michelle Slater and Aylwin Pillai supervise research projects in the fields of environmental law, renewable energy law and agricultural law. We supervise not only Scottish research but also projects with an international dimension.

Biography  

Oyinkan Tasie is currently a Doctoral Candidate of the School of Law, University of Aberdeen researching on the role of law in promoting sustainable development through renewable energy. Prior to commencing his Doctoral research in February 2009, Oyinkan obtained a Master of Laws in Law and Sustainable Development, from the University of Aberdeen in 2009. His Masters Dissertation examined the role of sustainable development in the oil and gas industry in Nigeria. In 2005 he qualified to practice as a Barrister at Law in Nigeria having passed the Nigerian Bar Exams and obtained a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (2004).
His research interests revolve around issues on Sustainable Development especially relating to increasing and sustaining access to electricity and tackling poverty. He expects to complete his doctoral research in January 2012.

  • Canada School of Energy & Environment Sponsored Debate: {International Student Energy Summit – Calgary, Canada 11 – 13 June 2009) MOTION: The CDM should be scrapped and replaced with a new mechanism that provides greater accountability in ensuring that any financing or technology transferred between countries actually reduces emissions. (Lead the Team debating against the motion)

Biography
Peter Kayode Oniemola is a Doctoral Candidate in the School of Law. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Ilorin (2004), Nigeria and a Barrister at Law from the Nigerian Law School (2006). He also holds a Master of Laws of the University of Ibadan, Nigeria (2009). Peter is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (United Kingdom), a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, Nigerian Association for Energy Economics and International Association for Energy Economics. 

Between March 2008 and March 2009, he was a MacArthur Foundation Graduate Intern in the Faculty of Law, University of Ibadan, Nigeria. 

His research interests focus on the relevance of the law in emerging energy and environmental challenges.

Biography

Colin is a doctoral candidate in the School of Law. His research is funded by the AHRC and examines the adequacy of existing legal mechanisms in the United Kingdon for imposing liability for environmental harms upon corporate groups. The aim of his research is to develop a legislative framework which ensures that corporate groups cannot be structured so as to evade liability for environmental harms.

Colin graduated with First Class LLB (Hons) in Law from Manchester University. Prior to undertaking his doctoral studies, he qulaified as a solicitor in England and Wales with the international law firm, Pinsent Masons LP.

Student: Louise Waddell

Biography

Louise Waddell is a research masters student at Aberdeen, looking at how the criminal law can beused to hold large corporations to account for environmentally harmful behaviour. She has an LLB from the University of Aberdeen and a Diploma in French Law from Universite Pierre Mendes France. She is a memeber of UKELA and is currently involved in the organisation of the Wild Law Conference 2011. Louise is expected to complete her masters in July.
