The Rural Law Group was set up at the beginning of 2009 to formalise existing teaching and research synergies between members of the School. The core members of the group are, Aylwin Pillai, Anne-Michelle Slater and Donna McKenzie-Skene. All are actively engaged in research in this field and in the LLB Honours Rural Law course, which was introduced in 2003. Dr Antole Boute a specialist in renewable energy law and Malcolm Combe private lawyer with research interests in land reform and crofting law joined the group in 2011. Dr Aylwin Pillai and Ms Anne-Michelle Slater also coordinate and teach the LLM Programme in Climate Change Law and Sustainable Development, which commenced in September 2011. Key research interests which are reflected in our teaching and CPD activities include: land law, land reform, environmental law (environmental justice and sustainable development), planning and renewable energy law.
