These instruments are used in a range of metabolic studies to determine the stable isotopic enrichment of compounds of biological interest and to quantify specific metabolites by isotope dilution.

The section has an Agilent 5973 MSD instrument with both electron impact (EI) and chemical ionization (PCI and NCI) techniques available.
