Beetroot and Burger Study

 Beetroot Burgers

Want to take part in a research study looking at how to improve the quality of ready meals?

Our research is looking into how we can reduce the harmful effects of eating too much fat in ready meals, by adding in antioxidants. The anti-oxidant we are using in this study is beetroot.

If you are a healthy male, aged between 21-60 years old, with a BMI between 18 and 35 and want to take part in this new project then please contact either of the research team at the details below.

Brain response to eating in males with and without type 2 diabetes: a fMRI study

 Brain

We are looking for healthy, obese men (BMI 30-40) who are right handed and aged 45-60 years old, with no diabetes.

This research study is interested in looking at dynamic changes in brain activity in response to feeding and how they differ in people with and without type 2 diabetes.

Brassica Study

 Broccoli

There is a lot of evidence to suggest that eating a diet rich in Brassica species (i.e. cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts etc) are beneficial in protecting us from diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

While we already have a good idea what these compounds might be, we need to know what metabolites they are transformed into, as well as where they can be found in the body.

This research study is interested in looking at the concentrations and potential bioactivity of the known compounds in the colon and blood circulation and possible reasons for their beneficial effects.

If you are a healthy, non-smoker aged between 18-55 years old, with a BMI between 18 and 30 and not currently on any prescription medicines, regular aspirin, anti-inflammatories (e.g. ibuprofen or diclofenac), antihistamines or nutritional supplements  and would like to take part in this new project then please contact either of the research team at the details below for more information.

Wheat Bran Study

 wheat bran

Evidence suggests that eating a diet rich in cereals such as wheat bran can protect us from diseases including heart disease, diabetes and cancer.

This research study is interested in looking at which compounds within the bran may be responsible and reasons for their beneficial effects.

If you are healthy, aged between 18-45 years old, with a BMI between 18 and 35 and eat less than one portion (40g serving) or more than five portions of wheat-bran based cereal per week  and would like to take part in this new project then please contact either of the research team at the details below for more information.

Effects of fatty acids on blood function

CLASS

We are looking for 50 healthy volunteers who live in Aberdeen city, shire or the surrounding area to take part in a human study where we investigate the potential health effects of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) on blood function.

CLA are unique fatty acids present in dairy products and beef which could help to prevent platelets from being overly active and thus help to prevent heart disease.

If you are aged 30-74 years, and happy to take food supplements and provide a number of blood samples in a human intervention study, please contact:

Volunteers sought for study into how a berry extract could combat diabetes

 berrys

We are looking for 28 diabetic men or men who have impaired glucose tolerance aged between 40 and 70 who live in Aberdeen city, shire or the surrounding area, for a 6 week study.

Volunteers must be controlling their diabetes through their diet, rather than insulin.

We'll be asking volunteers to take a concentrated blaeberry extract in a capsule three times daily – equating to approximately 1 1/2 cups of blaeberries - to test whether this helps reduce inflammation associated with the increased fat tissue, and therefore improve their diabetic symptoms.
