Born: 1 July 1964 at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii to Lieutenant Commander Allan Ray Smelley (born 13 April 1940 Camden, Texas; United States Naval Academy Class of 1963; United States Navy S.E.A.L. Commander, 1965 - 1969; Masters Degree: Nuclear Physics, 1969, United States Naval Academy Post-Graduate School, Monterey, California; Commanding Officer - River Division 551, Saigon Delta, 1970 - 1971; Senior United States Naval Advisor, River Patrol Group 59 -Vietnam; deceased: 18 July 1972 - Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, California; Awarded: Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal, Purple Heart) & Miss Linda Richardson-Oldson (born 21 October 1942 Mount Sterling, Kentucky; Debutante/Socialite - Washington D.C.; Remarried: Mr Ronald Garrett of Casper, Wyoming, 2 October 1981).

- In 1992 Ms Garrett graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Bachelor of Science degree in History, with a minor concentration in psychology. Turning down an offer for a place in the Master's degree program in History in Wyoming, Ms Garrett went to work and raised her daughter as a single parent. In 2004 she returned night school working on a Master of Education and a Master of Business Administration. During this time, Ms Garrett contacted several universities with the goal of earning a PhD in History to be able to teach the subject at the university level.

- After devoting 14 years to raising her daughter, Lauren, Ms Garrett is extremely proud to announce that her daughter will graduate from Naropa Univeristy in Boulder, Colorado in May, 2012 summa cum laude. Ms Garrett hopes to graduate in July 2012 with the Doctor of Philosophy degree in History. She is a member of the Eastern Star - a branch the Masonic Fraternity. Her greatest desire and passion lies in teaching students and she hopes to be given the opportunity to do so soon after graduation. Ms Garrett's future plans also include backpacking across Europe, visiting friends in Costa Rica, Sardinia and Australia as well as researching and writing about the Murrays of Atholl for many years to come.
