RIISS 'Phase 3' Research Projects

In 2012 The Research Institute of Irish and Scottish Studies was one of the major beneficiaries of a very substantial bequest to the University from the estate of Mrs Margaret Jones. As a result, for the next 7 to 10 years RIISS is able to continue to support research and publications in Irish and Scottish studies at about the same level as during the two phases of the AHRC Centre.

As the first initiative of this ‘Phase 3’, we invited University of Aberdeen staff to make bids for initial funding of up to £20k for projects in any area of Irish and Scottish Studies which can either:

(a) be developed into a major bid for AHRC, ESRC or EU funding streams

or

(b) support new collaborative work with scholars in Ireland (and particularly with our partners in Queen’s Belfast and Trinity College Dublin) or with Irish and/or Scottish Studies Centres anywhere in the world.

To give people time to complete the form, the deadline for applications for this first round of funding has been extended to noon on 10 December 2012.

The form can be downloaded here: application form

Please submit completed applications to Jon Cameron at riiss@abdn.ac.uk.

If you would like to discuss a possible application for such funding, please contact Cairns Craig (cairns.craig@abdn.ac.uk) or Michael Brown (m.brown@abdn.ac.uk).

We anticipate being able to support at least two projects each year.

In addition, we continue to encourage suggestions for conferences or symposia that we could fund and whose outputs would contribute to issues of The Journal of Irish and Scottish Studies or The Journal of Scottish Thought.
