Contracts and Legal
The Contracts & Legal Team works in an advisory capacity within Research and Innovation, providing general advice and assistance to all parties on an ad hoc basis. We provide advice and assistance in the preparation, review and conclusion of various contractual documents and can advise upon the legal implications of specific projects. We also provide assistance in the review and negotiation of terms of inter-institutional agreements (further information may be found in the University Academic Quality Handbook and in the MoU procedure).
Our aim is to protect the interests of the University as far as possible, bearing in mind current and future opportunities for the commercial development of any aspects of the particular project.
Initial contact should be made through the relevant Business Development Officer, who will refer contractual queries to the relevant contact within the Contracts & Legal Team.
When contacting your Business Development Officer or the Contracts & Legal Team, please ensure that you are able to give full project details, a detailed scope of work and full financial details. Please review Checklist For Agreements, to give you an idea of the type of information we require to draft an agreement for you. We also request that you contact us as soon as you become aware of the possible requirement for a contract - contract negotiations can become complex and protracted and we greatly welcome as much advance notice as possible.
