Exemptions and Recognitions

The University, where appropriate, will give students recognition for previous studies successfully undertaken in Higher or Advanced Further Education. Credit is awarded as either an exemption or a recognition.

For a definition of exemptions and recognitions, please refer to Section 4.2 in the Academic Quality Handbook.

In most cases, students who are eligible for the award of exemptions or recognitions will be awarded these on admission to the University. However, students who, after arrival, feel they may be entitled to the award of either exemptions or recognitions, should discuss the matter with their Adviser of Studies. Advisers will request a copy of certificates or transcripts confirming the qualifications received in a previous institution. If appropriate the Adviser will complete the exemption and recognition form which should be signed by both student and Adviser. The form is then passed to the Senate Office, Room 10, University Office. Once approval has been given by the relevant Admissions Selector, a letter will be sent from the Senate Office confirming the award and the Senate Office will make the necessary amendments to the student record.
